Motty – Another Great Sporting Commentator, gone but not forgotten

As I grow older more and more of the people I grew up with are passing on, having fondly graced us but now shuffling of this mortal coil.

John Motson passing adds to a list of those no longer with us, but he is on the list of thoroughly great sporting commentators that I love/loved and appreciate/appreciated when listening too or watching sport.

From my childhood through my adult life, they have provided such wonderful sound bites and enhanced the great sporting moments that have been such a great part of mine and others lives.

(I apologise for those I have forgotten)

Having reviewed the wonderful recollections and anecdotes paid to Motty, I think that future commentators will struggle to find an endearing place in the publics heart, which is a shame.

There are though now, literary hundreds of commentators due to the vast coverage provided in sport, when I was a lad there was effectively two channels for sport.

As Motty himself added we are now far more aware of what happens in sport as there is such a huge coverage of facts figures and stories in the plethora of media outlets across the globe.

Our commentators would perhaps take the opportunity of letting the action speak for its self and only occasionally providing a wonderful sound bite, but somehow I doubt this will be the case.

The list above are some of the true greats that loved their sport and in a few words convey the beauty we were all observing.
