Ukraine War – Four Years On

Is there hope on the horizon? Maybe, Maybe Not!

This is now the fourth blog about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and things don’t appear to have changed much. Look up my old blogs.

When Russia invaded Ukraine 4 years ago, like many, I was unsure what the outcome would be.

Over the last years, I have had time to reflect, like so many others, including those in the media outlets.

The media’s portrayal of the war has ebbed and flowed.

Last year at this time I commented on DT’s involvement, and there was a possibility he might find a solution to the dilemma, but sadly 12 months on and there is no immediate prospect of change.

NATO and the European leaders are slowly realising that they will need to play a part in whatever the outcome is.

As always, if a solution is found, it will involve compromise, and some will say that VP will have won, and the likely appeasement to his aggression will grant him the territory he has taken.

Like I wrote 12 months ago, perhaps DT can orchestrate some sort of truce, but with so much death and heartache, will VZ and VP be able to find a peace solution?

Will VZ be forced from power as a tragic consequence of any proposed solution?

With any peace, there would be elections, and history shows that powerful war leaders are often blamed for the conflict and not re-elected. Would that be another victory for VP?

But I’m getting ahead of myself. A truce is still a way off. The recent talks were positive, but no significant progress was made, and while talks continue, so do the missile attacks on innocent people.

The only losers, as in all conflicts, are the innocent.

I’m not sure whether peace can be secured, but I still hope there can be a solution, albeit whatever it is, neither side will be pleased with the outcome.

Such is the deep hatred between Ukraine and Russia.

It’s strange that what occurred on 24 February 2022 and was perceived as the greatest threat to world peace at the time, but no longer appears to merit the same media coverage.

When will the war end? That I don’t know.

Based on how long there has been a conflict in eastern Ukraine, it could still be many, many, years.

Is there a quick solution? No, this year has proven that, and VP is a hard man to negotiate with.

But if there is a truce, the peace will need to be policed. I mean you wouldn’t trust VP to honour any agreement.

So, it looks like the UK will have to at least put some boys on the ground if a deal is struck.

More expenditure for the UK taxpayer to pay. But perhaps a small, justifiable cost if peace is truly secured.

So how will the anniversary be reported? I will let you judge, but I somehow guess it will now be different to last year but still not as earnestly as earlier years.

As has been the case for the last 4 years, I have considered writing my own thoughts on the terrible atrocities that have occurred because of VP’s unleashed evil, but I have again decided to note a couple of worthy quotes, which in my opinion sum things up rather succinctly.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (GS)

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” (EB)

These quotes remain as accurate today as they always have, and also ring true for the continued media coverage in Gaza and the ongoing fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.
