What you Get is what you See – Simply the Best

Yesterday saw the passing of possibly the greatest woman singer and the Queen of Rock and Roll.

I had never been a great fan of Rock and Roll, but Tina Turner changed that in the mid-eighties when I bought her Private Dancer Tour Album Vol 1 & 2.

The twin cassettes had pride of place in every car I had until cassette players were no longer in cars. They have been slowly replaced by CD, then MP3 and now mobile phone links or apps.

But one thing has remained from that day until now is that TT has always been for me, the go-to music when driving on any long-distance journey. Others now sit along side her for me to choose from, but she was the one that changed my view on music back in the eighties and her place will always remain in my heart.

That album, I am sure also influenced our children who were always forced to listen to it on the long journey’s to their grand parents and when we were on lengthy holiday drives to places like Cornwall.

The lyrics on some of the songs are wonderful and enlightening, with true poignancy  for those that really listen.

The special appearances by David Bowie and Bryan Adams on the Album led me to always like those versions of the songs far more than the original tracks. I guess it is strange how you often like what you first hear or see.

Private Dancer was an iconic album and tour and launched TT into the super star idolised by millions.

She was a true great and I am unsure we will see the like of her again, I doubt that I will.

Her music is playing in the back ground as I write, and this morning’s drive was filled with her best songs rather than my normal ‘Smooth Radio’

Tina will always have a special part in my heart, the woman that changed my view of music and women.
