Ukraine War – Two Years On

Is Hope Fading?

When Russia invaded Ukraine 2 years ago ago, I like many, were unsure what the outcome would be.

When I wrote last year, I felt I had time to reflect, like so many of the Media Outlets.

12 months ago the media and almost everyone had a take on events, as they sought to show that they cared more than others for the ongoing atrocities instigated by Putin’s Russia. They sanctimoniously strove to portray their views and opinions as the most appropriate stories of the war to tell.

I wonder if this year there will show the same passion, or desire – I somehow doubt it.

Time has a strange effect on peoples perception, and if the media choose to downplay matters, they often fall from our conscious.

The Western nations, including NATO, and more importantly the USA Republican politicians, are less inclined to maintain the previous strong support for Ukraine.

The events of 7 October 2023, and Israel’s response, attracts far greater media coverage than the ongoing war in Ukraine, despite Ukraine’s struggle for freedom being no different then, to now.

It’s strange that what occurred on 25 February 2022 and was perceived as the greatest threat to world peace, no longer appears to merit the same media coverage.

Putin continues to try and justify his ‘Military Operation’ and seeking to blame the West for his actions.

Russians more than most, must understand that invading a sovereign country, – with a desire to rule, – is at best fool hardy but more realistically doomed to failure.

The invaded counties desire to defend its motherland, will always be stronger than the will of the oppressor to overthrow something that is not believed as true by its own troops.

When will the war end? That I don’t know.

Based upon how long there has been a conflict in eastern Ukraine, it could be many, many, years.

There is no quick solution – not while Putin remains in power.

So how will the anniversary be reported? I will let you judge, but I some how guess not as vigorously as last year.

My message though, remains pretty much the same.

I for one cannot start to understand the pain of the Ukrainians, and to some lesser extent the Russians that are directly involved, Unless your are directly affected it is just not possible.

I had again, considered writing my own thoughts on the terrible atrocities that have occurred because of Putin’s unleashed evil, but instead, I have once more decided to purely note a couple of worthy quotes – by better people than me – which in my opinion sum things up rather succinctly.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (GS)

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” (EB)

These quotes remain as accurate today as they did last year, and also ring true, for the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and the latest media coverage.
