Red v Blue – Illegal Immigration – GL Freedom of Speech
Following on from SB announcing the Government’s new strategy on Illegal Channel Crossings as I noted it brought the usual rhetoric from opposition parties and refugee charities plus GL denouncing the new initiative.
We all have the right to state of opinion and GL has done just that, so I am unsure why there is such an outcry in the media.
The BBC seem to want to fan the flames by seeing it as a news worthy event for their own headlines, but to be honest it just isn’t.
You are either in the Blue or Red camp on this one and everyone has the right to express their opinions and views on the subject.
What I find rather strange is that GL accused SB of using ‘language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30’s,’ when if you listen to the SB video he highlighted the content appeared reasonable and advised that those illegally entering the country would be returned to their own country.
I find that if GL believes this video is similar to Nazi propaganda then his opinions are not really worthy of comment as they are clearly wrong, however, he is at liberty to make his comment as do others that disagree with him.
The issue remains that many appear to use Twitter as a means of immediately making comment on issues without really fully considering the issue, which in my opinion is rather disappointing.
A knee jerk soundbite response is not helpful in any sensible debate, but neither is seeking to stop people’s freedom of speech.
