Red v Blue – GL Freedom of Speech – The Ongoing Saga
This story has unnecessarily grown legs at a great rate of knots, and to be honest I am unsure why.
Freedom of Speech it would appear is now the subject of the debate following a rather crass comment by GL.
GL is entitled to his opinion, and this remains his right, he can still continue to make observations as he deems fit.
The crux would appear that the BBC feel that he shouldn’t do that if he wants to be employed by them.
Has there been pressure from the government, maybe, but not yet conclusive.
The BBC has drawn its own conclusion from the GL Tweet based upon their Code of Conduct which applies to those that work for the BBC, no matter what their views or political persuasion.
GL has two options as I see it continue to put his point of view across and not work for the BBC or work for the BBC and keep his political views to himself.
His choice. Plain and simple.
For the liberal minded who state this is a right-wing plot by the government to prevent freedom of speech is rather an over-reaction.
I don’t agree with GL on this issue, but he is entitled to his say, he does however need to play by the BBC rules, his choice when all said and done, but please don’t make out that the government is preventing Freedom of Speech, that is just a ludicrous hypothesis by left wing socialists.
Twitter views will continue unabated, but you already know my views on that subject.
As I said only recently, a knee jerk soundbite response is not helpful in any sensible debate, but neither is seeking to stop people’s freedom of speech.
