Pele – GOATY – Greatest Of All Time Yes

Those of you that read my blog on the Qatar World Cup – A Great Final and a Success? will already know my views about Pele.

He was and always will be the best footballer, not only because of his incredible ability but because of who he was as a person.

He leaves all the other prospective GOATs in his wake.

I understand that you can only judge on what you see or have seen and for many younger people they never had the opportunity to witness Pele actually playing live, the best they now get are the well viewed snippets that have been shown following the sad death of the great man.

I was fortunate to witness his ability and skill which was truly awe inspiring to a young and impressionable boy, but what a footballer.

I have been really pleased to see that so many people, pundits and footballers past and present have rightly shown their admiration for the man and the messages have been heartfelt and genuine.

After his playing career finished, he became a great ambassador and that for me puts him above all the other candidates for GOAT.

Better men than me have recently written wonderful anecdotes and have paid tribute to the great man, but as he stands alongside the other great legends of sport, representing the best that football can offer, all I can add is…..
