NHS – Two Tier System? – How dare they……
Strange how its taken the NHS Leaders in Scotland to suggest what is clearly a sensible proposal and that is to have a two tier system where those that can afford to pay do so.
I can hear it now, the socialist BBC press wringing their hands at the thought of the beloved NHS being undermined.
The Labour party will not support such a thought, I mean their own Aneurin Bevan launched a scheme that was long overdue and essential at the time to give health care to everyone, but threaten the NH, no way.
However, the NHS is long overdue a reform, its not fit for purpose, waiting times are getting longer by the day.
The system is broken, there are probably more bureaucrats and administration staff than actual front-line operatives and workers, perhaps rather extravagant, but the money wasted on non-medical staff is obscene.
I have had health care insurance for the last 35 years, admittedly paid by my employer, but now I have retired I have continued to ensure that I have PMI to allow me to get fast effective treatment that I would have to wait months for under the NHS.
Some may say, more fool you. I shouldn’t do that, but surely it is better that those that can afford it pay for it and not litter the waiting lists, making treatment times longer for those that unfortunately can’t afford it.
I remember as a 14 year old having cut my head open while playing football on a Sunday afternoon. The service in casualty was so much better.
Despite the car journey to and from the hospital being over an hour, I was still home for tea in less than two hours from incurring the injury. Happy Days.
Not like now you will have 4 hour wait no matter how busy or quiet A&E is, the system grinds on in its mind-blowing inefficient way, why, because everyone now expects it and it happens, even the medical staff think its what is acceptable.
Signing in, waiting, Triage, (what the f**k, there’s no one else here, just treat me), more waiting, a nurse assesses, more waiting, a doctor assesses, x-ray, more waiting, might need a scan just to be sure!!!, more waiting, eventually, and finally a nurse puts in the 4 stitches that could have been done in 15 minutes, more waiting for a doctor to check, and finally you can make your way home passing the near empty waiting room.
Of course, the system needs reform.
NHS the best in the world? Something I was bought up on. No longer the case, though.
My treatment over the years for, Gall Stones, Gall Bladder removal, Knee Cartilage repair, Inguinal Hernia repair all by PMI undertaken within a few weeks of diagnosis, undertaken by the same surgeons that would have done it under the NHS but, quicker, more effectively and more courteously that any NHS treatment and with a smile and a nice room and menu service meals.
Every appointment on time and with a feeling that your health is important.
I feel the NHS has lost its way it does need reform, just throwing more money at a broken system is not the answer, but no one has the courage to suggest it, Labour won’t, the conservatives should but daren’t, so I was pleasantly surprised to read the headline.
It is something that shouldn’t be dismissed but should be on an open agenda to find the best and most cost-effective way to provide the health care that the British people expect and deserve.
