NHS Is Broken – SKS calls for Reform
About Time
I remember writing on the topic back in November 2022. See the Link below.’ It’s still very relevant and… true.
It’s taken a while for the penny to drop, or I guess more importantly, for someone to get off the fence and recognise what the rest of us have known for years.
SKS, now in the driving seat at least, has had the guts to raise the issue. However, raising it and doing something about it are two different things.
“However, the NHS is long overdue a reform, it’s not fit for purpose, waiting times are getting longer by the day.
The system is broken. There are probably more bureaucrats and administration staff than actual front-line operatives and workers, perhaps a rather extravagant statement, but the money wasted on non-medical staff is obscene.”
I guess until we get our heads around that it’s not a free service, we will never move on.
When it was introduced, it was a great benefit to those that, until then, couldn’t afford proper health care. It provided access to medical treatment that you didn’t have to pay for when being treated.
That also included prescriptions, dentistry, and glasses. However, these now, as we all know, have to be paid for at the point of use.
The NHS, though, has never been free. It’s paid for by the taxes we all pay – well, most of us.
So if you, like many of us, want to pay for a two-tier system, then that to me seems sensible.
We need to get back to the NHS providing the frontline service they were once renowned for, and to reduce waiting times for those crucial things in life.
That shouldn’t be for cosmetic surgery, transgender transformation, or things within our control plus any other non-life-threatening services that many think is their right to have paid for by the rest of us.
The NHS has lost its way. It does need reform, but just throwing more money at a broken system is not the answer, and now SKS has perhaps recognised that.
Now is perhaps the time to review things with an open agenda to try to find the best and most cost-effective way to provide the health care that the British people expect and deserve.
I can’t quite believe that I agree with something proposed by a Labour leader…. But talking and doing… are, as we all known is two very different things.
