Labour – A Year in Office  – Could Do Better?

Did you expect anything more?

A year after the Labour landslide, and where are we? Much has changed.

I had purposely decided not to actively blog airing my concerns about SKS government, mainly because I’m not a Labour fan, and I felt it only right to give them a chance.

Twelve months ago, I wrote:-

Labour secured victory, on the back of people’s discontent, and anything is better than the Conservatives.

Notwithstanding the above, I wish SKS well; he has been elected Prime Minister, and we should support him, especially globally. Of all the Labour leaders, I find him the best of a bad lot, perhaps a little bland, but is that so bad? Also, I feel he has a strong moral compass. It will be interesting to see how he fares when decisions are required and the going gets tough.

All I would say is that the country is a bit like me. Indifferent. They do not see that it makes a great deal of difference who is in power; we get on with life regardless, and we will continue to see taxes rise – even us pensioners – and some of our services eroded.

I take no great pride in saying, ‘I told you so,’ but I did.

SKS credentials on the world stage – not unlike other world leaders – is greater than at home, here in the UK. Soundbites at world conferences are easy to make with little come back.

Not so here in your own backyard.

SKS, and Labour are finding being in government is a lot tougher than making false promises in opposition.

Three significant U Turns on major policies by a government with a vast majority, speaks volumes about the decision making and who is pulling the strings. SKS and RR at times, are showing a degree of naivety that is likely to come back and haunt them.

SKS, I suggest needs to get his act in order. Think through what he believes is right and to stick to his guns.

Otherwise, his own party will turn on him, and I can assure him, the electorate most certainly will.

Currently, that significant majority in the House of Commons is likely to take a significant hammering at the next election, if things don’t change. I wonder what NF will bring to the party in three to four years’ times? Even if the conservatives haven’t got their act together by then.

Well, as I have said on numerous occasions, be wary of what you wish for.

Voting in a Labour Government ultimately leads to all taxpayers paying more – even us pensioners – and that, I can assure you, was inevitable and I don’t see any improvement in services for the regular tax payer.

Life goes on regardless, and at least the weather’s pretty good – for now – and sport is always on hand to ease the passage of time.
