Fashions are Fleeting – Style is Forever
With news being rather slow and having been engrossed in getting my novel ready for publishing I have been rather pre-occupied, but this morning I thought of a topic that is always on people’s minds.
That of fashion.
Now to many it is of the highest importance, and they must be seen wearing the current or latest fashions.
However, it got me thinking that fashion is only a fleeting moment in time, but style is eternal.
I have never been one to consider that keeping up with the latest fashion as important and at times I find some styles rather odd and far from stylish.
My biggest gripe is ripped jeans or with holes in them, especially when what started as a young person’s fashion seems to have spread to all ages. My daughters who should know better in my opinion, still choose at times to wear holey/ripped jeans, whether it is to just annoy me as they know I dislike them with a vengeance I am unsure, but I can’t see how such a fashion is any way stylish.
It just looks cheap and anything but stylish.
Another look that men seem to adopt especially older men is the sloppy look of Jacket and Jeans, what are they trying to convey. That you are still young at heart but recognise that a jacket is still desirable, I am unsure.
I wore a collar and tie all my working life, despite this going out of fashion for almost everyone I met.
The issue is that if you wanted to look smart then a collar and tie was and still is essential.
If you are going to wear a jacket then at least match it with a decent pair of trousers, alternatively if you go casual then go the whole hog, but what do I know.
I have over the years seem fashions come and go, some remain classics, other fade as quickly as they arrived. What I find strange is some people’s desire to follow trends rather than just rely on what looks good no matter where no matter when.
Trends that definitely do not deserve a re-run are, flared trousers, large lapels, shell suits, corduroy jeans, shoulder pads, dungarees, but what do I really know about fashion, not a lot.
Fashion following is for fools, but I guess I am a minority, but all I would say is that Fashions are Fleeting, Style is Forever.
