Equality – Is it just a Pipe Dream?

Strange subject equality, while in theory it is a goal worth striving for, in reality is it just a unobtainable dream?

I would prefer us to focus on the things that highlight our best points rather than just try and make us all the same.

Now don’t get me wrong if you do exactly the same job as someone else you should be paid the same.

This applies no matter what gender you are, male or female, black or white, rich, or poor.

What I do have a problem with is expecting to be paid the same as someone else, if you aren’t as good.

I will highlight the issue of females wanting to be paid the same as males in sport.

Now I don’t have a particular issue with this, but the best male will always beat the best female, they aren’t equal, physically they are different.

The best women’s football team would be soundly beaten by the best male team, that is a fact.

Now if you are good enough to play football you can be paid the same as men if you can get in their team. That is equality.

If not, then unfortunately it is only reasonable to accept that females should not be paid the same as men on gender equality alone.

We should not seek to show we are equal but highlight our differences and why men are better at somethings and women are better at others, this is just natural and right.

I admire women enormously they are so much better at some things then men and I love them for it.

They should be paid more for doing a job better than a man.

Similarly, though men are better at somethings than women and the best man should be paid more than a women if he does a better job or is more skilled again only fair and reasonable, or vice versa.

I find the recent call for gender neutral awards, which attempts apparently to make them more inclusive, rather strange. What will occur is that the best will win the award and we will not be rewarding both males and females or other up and coming voices of all types.

If we consider acting and the Oscars.

I believe we should reward all the categories for all male and female and perhaps include other classifications. This would ensure more people, that believe they are currently excluded, are actually included in celebrating their achievements.

What is wrong with being the best black actor, or the best young actress or the best mature actress, or the best disabled actor.

Having more categories encourages rewards which can only be a good thing, this inspires everyone to do their best.

I don’t like to compare us to dogs, but don’t Crufts have it right? Find the best of the different categories and then you compare and judge them and ultimately establish the Best of Show.

A win for everyone, no one is excluded, and we still get to establish who is the best of the best.

Let’s not seek to obtain a false sense of equality, but celebrate our differences, and reward those that deserve it, not just have equality for the sake of equality, that is just not how it is.
