Conflicts and Wars – Are there ever any Winners?

Gaza – A never ending conflict?

Since the atrocities of 7th October – other than my go at the BBC – I have remained silent on the issues in Gaza, despite there being many outspoken views being aired in the media.

My reasons for this is there is no absolute right or wrong.

All we have currently is the extreme opposing views being aired between Jews and Muslims and their respective supporters.

But when there are conflicts or wars, are there ever any winners?

The answer is quite clear…. No.

This has been borne out by the history of all conflicts.

There are always just losers. Those caught in the cross fire. The innocent. The men, women and children who seek to live a life in the most desperate of circumstances.

This applies to those on both sides of the argument.

Hamas instigated a callous terrorist attack on a sovereign state, killing over 1400 innocent people and taking 240 hostages. I am unsure how any elected government is supposed to react to this, other than to seek justice by finding and/or killing the perpetrators.

Israel has instigated such measures to destroy Hamas – not surprisingly – but have they now gone too far?

They have attempted to warn civilians of their intentions and where they plan to attack, but there have still been far too many innocent people killed. Something has to change.

The UN General Assembly has demanded a Cease Fire – voted by 153 countries of the 193 – Will it happen? – Unlikely in the short term – but inevitable in the longer term.

But what will be the long term solution?

While people with extreme differing opinions making the most noise, the majority opinions of those on both sides, seeking a tolerant peaceful resolution, will most possibly be ignored. Which is a shame, as they will be the ones that suffer.

It is also strange that an aggressor like Russia should be voting for a cease fire, when they continue to occupy and wage war against Ukraine. Other countries who have similar awful human rights records, have also, sanctimoniously jumped on the band wagon condemning Israel for seeking retribution.

There are many protesting their views in European capitals. However protests needs to be undertaken in Israel and Gazza, by united Jews and Muslims alike. Not undertaken by separatists parties – living in a western world – seeking to justify their own political and religious agendas.

All I see is extreme intolerance, with innocent people being killed.

The solution? Respect others and live and let live.

But is this likely? Not really.

Not when there extremists views and opinions are condoned by the majority living in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank.

I re-quote  – “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” (EB)

I know that everyone just wants to live happily. But it is for Jews and Muslims to accept their own and the others respective beliefs and get along – If not the killing will continue.
