Pensioners Lose Winter Fuel Allowance – Labour hit at easy target
Pensioners and all taxpayers will be worse off under Labour – Shame on you RR
I was rather taken back at how soon Labour hit out at pensioners – but not overly surprised.
Withdrawing the Winter Fuel Allowance seems a shallow and unnecessary measure, hitting potentially at the old and vulnerable, and not saving that much, when seeking to supposedly reduce a £22bn deficit.
Now don’t get me wrong, as there are quite a lot of pensioners that this measure will not overly worry them as they have other pensions or income to fall back on. The issue is though that there are a great deal of pensioners that rely solely on their state pension to survive, or have only little hard-earned savings.
These people, like my dear departed mother, relied on the winter fuel allowance to supplement their income. An income that meant they only just managed to live. No over indulgence, holidays or some of the niceties of life that the rest of us take for granted.
How RR believes this measure is fair, reasonable or totally necessary is, rather frustrating to say the least.
It is, I fear, the thin end of the wedge. With tax thresholds likely to remain as they are, soon, with the expected triple lock increase to state pension, all pensioners will see any other savings or private pensions taxed even more.
This I had already recognised when Labour got into power. Now many people will say tough. But is that reasonable? I don’t somehow think so.
Well, as I have said on numerous occasions, be wary of what you wish for.
Voting in a Labour Government will ultimately lead to all taxpayers paying more, that, I can assure you, is inevitable.
Moan over, I’ll get back to sunbathing and finding a way of saving £500 to go towards this winter’s heating bill. Luckily I can, but many unfortunately aren’t so blessed. Shame on you RR and Labour.
