Parky – The Greatest Chat Show Host
A True Great Yorkshireman
Today sees the sad passing of a Great Yorkshireman, and as I blogged earlier this year, as I grow older more and more of the people I grew up admiring are passing on, having fondly graced us but now shuffling of this mortal coil.
There have already been many wonderful anecdotes and tributes of this true chat show king, from the good and the great, the show of affection is truly heartwarming.
For me I remember as a 15 year old, with expectations of greatest, dreaming of appearing on The Maichael Parkinson Show, for me that sadly never occurred, but he left me with some great memories of great interviews. A True Great.
Over the next years he established himself quite clearly as the Best chat show host.
He had a way of putting everyone, well almost everyone, with the obvious well know exceptions, at ease.
His style of posing questions he knew would get the best out of the guests was legendary, the show was always about the guest and their stories, he was purely a conduit for us to see the other persons true self. Just wonderful TV.
Often on a Saturday Night, having been to the pub, I would watch Parky, and his guests, and he had some wonderful guests, as have been highlighted on todays tributes. The stories are legendary, and I don’t need to go on social media or current news channels to see them, I remember them live. Such joy.
Many have attempted to emulate the man since he retired, but despite some valiant efforts, non-have, or are likely to reach the truly highest standard he set.
The art of a being a great chat show host is a true challenge, and the fact that I have never shown the same devotion to others that have attempted to emulate him, just shows the talent of a most wonderful man.
I know now for certain, I can never be interviewed by him, but the dream will always remain, and I am sure if there is a God, I know who will now be interviewing him right now, the one, the only, Sir Michael Parkinson.
