Norovirus – Nasty Little F****r

I’m not sure if I have previously just been lucky or whether being older I haven’t come into contact with Norovirus, but this week while staying with the grand children I now realise what people say when they have had it.

Now don’t get me wrong, but before I had been a bit ‘yeah so what’ when people had said they had got this vomiting and diarrhoea bug, not anymore.

I struggled to remember when I had been so violently sick, and it must have then only been due to excessive indulgence in alcohol, which I have long realised doesn’t agree with me, and following the euphoria of drinking to excess wears off, I always lost the whole of the next day feeling dreadful.

But I digress, not long after the forceful episode of sickness, I then had to swiftly run to the toilet, as what I can only describe as foul-smelling water exploding from my bowels ensued.

I gingerly made my way back to bed feeling dreadful, with a headache from hell, completely knackered and a fever to boot.

The next 24 hours were not something I wish to readily repeat, as I lay restlessly in bed with persisting symptoms, for once taking my own advice, of keep hydrated and take some paracetamol, which I sort of did. Now as each day passes I am slowly feeling better, but not perfect, and day two allowed some ginger tea with some plain toast, which I managed to stop from coming out of either end.

Luckily it would appear as noted on the NHS website, that the symptoms start 1 to 2 days after you become infected and last for 2 to 3 days, I hope this is the case as we have had to put back our travelling back to the UK until we feel 100%. So fingers crossed.

I now fully understand those that are unfortunate to be infected, and everyone that succumbs to this terrible bug, has my understanding and sympathy, something that is not often witnessed as my normal endearing traits.

So as always, my advice, stay away from children wherever possible, they have this endearing habit of bringing bugs home from schools, and stay hydrated and stock up on paracetamol.

Hopefully it will be a long time, or perhaps never would be too soon, before I get another bout of the Irish Norovirus, and I guess this goes for the rest of the family who have also been suffering
